Principal's Corner

The State Report Card is available. Sevierville Intermediate School did well in all areas of achievement. The TVAAS report indicates room for improvement in the area of mathematics. We are addressing this issue with our new Math Intervention Program and FASTTMath software. If you have questions concerning the State Report Card, please do not hesitate to call or schedule a conference.

A special thank you is extended to all parents and community members who helped raise money for our school. The Coupon Book Sales drive was a huge success. The proceeds purchased a new traverse climbing wall for our gymnasium. The students and teachers love it! Please stop by for a demonstration.

A special thank you is also extended to our PTO and community members who made our Open House a successful evening. We had a huge turnout!

The Drama Club's production of Charlotte's Web was a tremendous success
due to the contributions of many parents, teachers and community members.
Thank you for your support.

This is a reminder to parents to please complete your U.S. Census Forms.
The more people counted, the more money the State of Tennessee will receive.

Title I
Sevierville Intermediate School is a school-wide Title I School. Title I schools must comply with the qualifications of teachers and paraprofessionals as outlined in NCLB. Parents of students in Title I Schools may request information about the qualifications of teachers and paraprofessional that instruct their children. Parents of students in Title I schools will receive notification if Sevier County employs a teacher for four or more consecutive weeks that does not meet the highly qualified requirement. Our teachers are highly qualified by the State of Tennessee. By participating in the Title I Program, our school is provided with extra materials and teaching staff to ensure we meet the needs of your child. Federal funds are used to implement staff development programs that keep our teachers current in new ideas for teaching. We are provided materials and equipment to upgrade our school equipment and instructional materials. Each year our school develops an improvement plan to make our school the best it can be. Parents have the opportunity to participate in planning, reviewing of goals and suggesting improvements to our school program. You also have the right to be informed of your student's progress while attending S.I.S. We encourage your involvement in our school and hope to see you at each of the PTO programs where Title I information will be provided for you. For more information, please visit the TN Department of Education Title I Resource Page.

CSA News from Mrs. McCullough
4th grade CSA has been practicing a variety of techniques to generate useful ideas for an invention so that they will each have a project to display at CSA Expo night in March. We caught and tagged monarch butterflies in Cades Cove last month. We set up an experimental science project as a demonstration for Mr. Gaddis' classroom. 5th grade CSA students prepared interesting PowerPoint programs on Copernicus and Galileo and presented them to their science class. They applied physics principles building a virtual roller coaster online and demonstrated heat transfer for the class with a heat convection spiral. They presented short video clips on cells found online to class. They have selected famous people to research for the CSA Expo/Wax Museum. These students also attended the Cades Cove trip. They attended the UTK Earth Science Fair. Mrs. McCullough is very proud of the productivity of her students.

Ms. Lindsey's Art Announcement
Some of our fifth graders recently took a field trip to the Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts in Gatlinburg, TN! They got to spend the day learning from a skilled artist while creating some awesome art! The different classes included: metals, wood turning, clay, batik (textiles) and photograms. Some classes got a little messy, but I think it's safe to say they all had a blast!! I look forward to going again next year!

Mrs. Jeffers' class has had an awesome year! We have Super-duper Readers--Makayla, Cheyenne, Mitchell, Jackie, and Trevor. Our Math Magicians are Peyton, Haley, Sarah, and Joshua. We are very proud of Bazyl and Ethan for the progress they have made in many areas. Congratulations, Michael for improving your computer skills. We want to welcome Kiara to our class, and we are SO glad to have Peyton N. back with us after surgery! We have lots of exciting plans for this holiday season. We couldn't ask for a better group of students!

Mrs. Bryan’s Bulldogs have really worked hard this second six weeks. We have begun writing our spelling words in cursive, written a persuasive friendly letter, and learned our multiplication facts through the 6’s. Accelerated Reading is going well. Fourteen Pizza Hut coupons have been earned so far during October and November. Great job kids! Keep reading! We have a field trip coming up December 4th and Science Fair projects may be dropped off on December 8th. I am so excited to see the projects the students have been working so hard on. Congratulations to Kirsten and Lanitta. They were our Students of the Month for September and October. Our student council representative is Briana M. and she represents us well. A big pat on the back to all my students for their hard work so far this year. Keep it up kids; we have only just begun!!

Wow! Christmas is almost here! Mrs. Miniard's class has been working hard this second six weeks. We have been really busy growing plants, learning to write in cursive, and starting our multiplication facts. Congratulations to Daniel G. for earning Student of the Month for October.

Mr. Cox's Brilliant Bears

As we close in on halfway to TCAP assessments, the Brilliant Bears continue to be the Busy Bears. We are currently working hard on our studies and our Science Fair Projects.

Congratulations to:

  1. Alexandria for earning the October Student of the Month. She earned this for her classroom efforts, positive attitude, and her overall helpfulness.
  2. Class Spelling Bee winners, Ben, Brandon, and Piper
  3. AR Leaders were Nicholas, Taylor R., Piper, Olivia, Emily-Grace, Harrison, Tristan, and Ben.
  4. Apple Strut Money Leaders were Taylor R., Charles B., Hayden, Nicholas, Emily-Grace, and Ben.
  5. Apple Strut Lap Leaders were Charles B., Harrison, Ben, Joe, Hayden, Chandler, Aubrey, Taylor S., Emily-Grace, Taylor R., and Alexandria.
  6. The many who had excellent 4H posters.
  7. Our class for really raising a lot and "Doing Our Best" for The Apple Strut. Thanks also to all those who helped.

The Bears have been busy in Good Works projects. We have collected Tuna for the food pantry. We are currently recycling bottles, collecting canned goods for the Food Ministry, Coats for the Cold, and Toys for Tots.

We've also had several family members to speak to us about some interesting occupations and life experiences.

Lastly, we have had many students qualify for honor roll and perfect attendance. Way to go Bears!

Hammer's Superstars
Mrs. Hammer's class sent two representatives to the Fourth Grade Spelling Bee. They are Raul R. and Alex D. Congratulations! We had a successful 4-H meeting in November led by Portia and Corey. We are trying to get more AR points than ever next six weeks. We wish everyone a happy Turkey Day!

Mrs. Sutton's Super Scientists

Teamwork is going strong for the Super Scientists! The students are working well together in their cooperative learning groups.

Our class has been very busy learning about different Native American groups. The students completed informative projects about their favorite Native American group, and presented their reports to the class.

We also learned a lot from a retired state senator from North Carolina, Mr. George Marion, who taught a lesson on local and state government. We always enjoy our visits from Senator Marion!

Congratulations to our Student of the Month, Hailey C., and to our Class Citizen of the Month, Andruw H.!
